Kintsugi (金継ぎ, golden joinery ) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with urushi lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
Kintsugi has a very distinctive and beautiful look. Here in the designer toy realm, Ryan at Ophelia Toys has developed a kintsugi-esque style of painting on vinyl and resin. In this release, Gerald Okamura worked with Ophelia Toys to apply his kintugi style to Gerald s soft vinyl Tikumo. We think these may be the most beautiful Tikumos yet!
